Rovigo

This city is also known as the city of roses, following a description in Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso, ( canto 3, 41, vv. 1-2).
The Latin name Rhodigium comes from the Greek word
ρόδον (rhodon), which means “rose” and even if it deals with a fantastic elaboration, the rose remains a symbol of this city.
rovigo2With our tour guides, walking through the small but charming old town you will enjoy many masterpieces of the venetian age like the Angeli Palace and the
Roncale Palace and in the main square dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II we can find the prestigious Academy of Concordi, a cultural institution whose art collections are now exposed in the renovated Palazzo Roverella, hosting today many important exhibitions.

During the visit of Rovigo, you cannot miss the
Temple of the Blessed Virgin of Relief, known as “the Rotonda”, realized by a Palladio’s collaborator with a particular central, octagonal plan. The interior decoration is rich with allegorical canvases which celebrate the Virgin Mary and the Venetian Republic Government.
Rovigo also has a very modern and innovative archeological museum, M
useo dei grandi Fiumi, inside the former monastery of Olivetani monks. Thanks to the peculiar size and reproduction of the archeological finds and sites the visitors can easily understand the evolution of the Polesine territory making comparisons with other European populations that have developed near rivers like it.
