From 1405 until 1797 Verona became part of the so-called Veneto Republic, like many other cities in this territory forming the largest Italian State.
Since the very beginning of their rule, the Venetian, thought of Verona as a military camp due to its strategical position reorganizing a series of city-walls and gates. Many Renaissance artists designed palaces and churches were embellished with new altarpieces.
